Last, I run the update and installed kernal_legacy for 10.6.8. Then I remove SleepEnabler and executed UpdateExtra. After installing the OS I run Netbook Boot Maker 0.83 to make the netbook's hard drive bootable. I used a bootable USB stick with NBI 0.84 and an image of MAC OS 10.6 restored to a USB external HDD. I managed to find the right procedure and the right sequence of steps to get the update to 10.6.8 to work. I basically installed and re-installed Snow Leopard literally over 20 times.

Much of the software in Mac OS X was extensively rewritten for this release in order to take advantage fully of modern Macintosh hardware. Addition of new end-user features was not a primary consideration: its name was intended to signify its goal to be a refinement of its predecessor, Mac OS X Leopard. Unlike previous versions of Mac OS X, the goals of Snow Leopard were improved performance, greater efficiency and the reduction of its overall memory footprint.
